An application of high-contrast gratings: a MEMS optical phased array whose elements are thin single-layer silicon HCG mirrors, steering a beam over ±1.26° in two dimensions. The low mass of the grating mirror gives a resonant frequency of 0.32 MHz and suits the device to high optical power. An example of the structures the modes-interference study is about.
