By the author of MC Grating: design, fabrication and measurement of an all-dielectric −1st-order grating for femtosecond pulse compression. The corrugation is etched into the high-index hafnia layer on top of a 19-layer quarter-wave mirror, and the whole structure, mirror included, is optimised for a top-hat efficiency spectrum. Measured under TE incidence at 57°, the fabricated grating diffracts 97% on average, flat between 777 and 815 nm.

The paper states its own residual: the measured spectrum sits 3 nm to the blue of the modelled one, which it attributes to a layer-index error. The paper models the grating with a diffraction code based on the true-mode method, the method Modal Collinear implements for lamellar gratings.

MC Grating is Windows software that computes diffraction gratings by the modal method and the C method. The download page has the current release, which runs in demo mode without a license key.
