Real beams are finite and so are real gratings. This paper gives a method for the diffraction of a finite Gaussian beam by a finite waveguide grating, shows that such a grating can serve as a mirror in a plane-parallel cavity, and demonstrates a waveguide mirror in a dye microlaser.

The resonance pole parameters this analysis rests on are what the Analysis dialog of the four one-dimensional codes computes for a finite Gaussian beam; the product page cites it for exactly that.

MC Grating is Windows software that computes diffraction gratings by the modal method and the C method. The download page has the current release, which runs in demo mode without a license key.
