Lifeng Li's rework of the 1982 method removed its practical ceilings. Replacing the transmission-matrix propagation through the stack with an R-matrix algorithm eliminates the numerical overflow that had limited the total coating thickness and the number of layers, and an analysis of the symmetries of the eigenvalue problem roughly halves the computing time, most visibly in conical mounts.

Multilayer stability of this kind is what lets the Chandezon codes treat stacks of many coatings in one run.

MC Grating is Windows software that computes diffraction gratings by the modal method and the C method. The download page has the current release, which runs in demo mode without a license key.
