An analytic formalism for the resonances of subwavelength high-contrast gratings: they arise from strong coupling between two surface-normal waveguide-array modes, a matrix generalisation of the Fabry–Perot resonance, and a simple expression for the quality factor follows. The modes-interference study on this site reaches the same two-mode description numerically and cites this paper for the approach.
