This documentation was written for releases up to 2018 and is being revised. Some dialogs have changed since. If something does not match what you see, write to [mc@mcgrating.com](mailto:mc@mcgrating.com).

This page is intended for *Normal Vector Field* visualization.
The structure calculation is completely independent from this page controls.

- ***Layer Index*** defines the grating layer index.
Above this control the FFT grid size is indicated.
- ***Graph Type*** control has two options:***
 - Interface ***displays in the FFT grid the *NV Field* at interfaces only.***
 - Full Field ***displays full* NV Field *in the FFT grid.
***- NV Field component*** selects *NV Field* component to display.
- The user may display in the FFT grid the original *NV Field* with smoothing or not (see page ***Options***) or the *NV Field* image used in real calculation. The last depends on number of orders (***[General](https://mcgrating.com/docs/modal-crossed/general.html)*** page) repeated in the *Root-mean-square error at Interface* panel. This panel presents average difference between the original and the image of three *NV Field* components. These values are calculated during the *NV Field* displaying. The *NV Field* values are significant only at interfaces. So, minimizing these errors by playing with smoothing parameters (see page ***Options***) will increase the reliability of *NV Field* using.
